GOA POLICE CRIME BRANCH LAUNCHES PROBE AGAINST SENIOR GOVT OFFICIALS INVOLVED IN ILLEGAL MINING CASE

PANJIM: The Goa Crime Branch has launched an extensive investigation against senior government officials into the alleged illegal mining case involving NCP general secretary Jitendra Deshprabhu. The investigation covers the Mines and Geology Director, Forest Conservator, Goa State Pollution Control Board Chairman, State Transport Director, among others, who have been accused of shielding illegal mining in Goa, police said.
"We will be quizzing almost everyone associated with this case," Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Salgaoncar who handled badly the investigation of Police-Politician-Drugs nexus case said, adding an FIR has been registered against Deshprabhu, besides other government officials on May 11.
According to the public and the know social activists, Deshprabhu will easily win over Chandrakant Salgaoncar who is famous for sabotaging the police politicians drugs nexus case earlier.
Some Social activists said that this case should never be given to a corrupt police officer like Chandrakant Salgaoncar who himself is involved in illegal activities since he became a PSI way back. They further said that this is yet an another attempt by the Goa police department to throw the case against Deshprabhu into dustbin and so they chose the man most capable in destroying the evidence and sabotaging yet another case Chandrakant Salgaoncar
Deshprabhu, whose family owns huge tracts of land in North Goa's Pernem taluka, has been accused of indulging in illegal mining to the tune of Rs 50 crore
