PONDA POLICE ARREST THREE HIGHWAY ROBBERS ON SUNDAY: ALL ROBBERS NON GOANS

PONDA: In a case of swift reaction, Ponda police nabbed three persons hours after a highway robbery early Sunday morning. Police acted after truck cleaner Amresh Chavan, a native of Bagalkot-Karnataka, approached the police station at 1.40 am, and lodged a complaint that four persons waylaid his truck on the national highway to Belgaum-Karnataka.
"The incident took place near the village panchayat office of Dharbandora. The truck was proceeding towards Karnataka. The accused stopped the truck on the highway and took away 1,500 from the truck driver and cleaner," said police inspector Manoj Mardolkar, who is currently holding additional charge at Ponda police station.
Ponda police alerted their counterparts at the Molem check post, and thereafter rushed to the Goa border. "Three persons were arrested. However, the fourth person managed to flee," said Mardolkar.
Those arrested include: Guru Chalwadi, 27, Amar Adony, 18, and Shridham Chalwadi, 22, all natives of Karnataka, but residing at Kirlapal-Dabal in Dharbandora. "We are tracking the fourth accused. We are also investigating whether the accused travelled by a two wheeler or a four wheeler, as we neither found a vehicle at the scene of crime, nor at the place where they were arrested," the police inspector added.
Meanwhile, the three arrested persons were produced before the judicial magistrate first class, Ponda, who remanded them to four days police custody.  Police have registered the case under Section 394 (robbery), read with Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Ponda police sub inspector Nikhil Palekar is investigating the case.

Since most of the criminals are non-goans the Police department is justified in giving police jobs to Ghantis.  So do not complain that Police dept. have few goenkars.
