PANJIM: The Pilerne Citizens Forum (PCF), on Thursday, demanded that the police complete investigation into the Reshma Korgaonkar death case within a month and charge sheet the accused persons, or else it would be forced to take action for which the government will solely be responsible.
The PCF president, Mr Prakash Bandodkar, addressing a press conference in the city said that the police is deliberately delaying the investigation in the case for last six months, and creating an atmosphere of confusion as regards their probe into death.
Meanwhile, Ms Nilima Amerkar, the sister of the deceased said that Reshma, hailing from Pilerne village was married in a Korgaonkar family in Saligao in the year 2004. “She was found dead, hanging from a ceiling on her dupatta in November 2011, and had a number of marks on her face and body,” she said, observing that Reshma would have never committed suicide.
“The husband and the mother-in-law of the deceased were subsequently arrested by the police and later released on bail,” Nilima informed, adding that since then there is a total confusion over who is investigating the case. She also confirmed that Reshma was not pressurised by her husband or parent-in-laws for dowry.
“We also referred the case to the Goa State Commission for Women, but the member secretary of the Commission has stated that the issue was discussed by the Commission members and it was felt that the Commission should not interfere in the matter, at this stage since the same is being investigated by the police department, the deputy Collector and the SDM, Mapusa,” Nilima maintained. “Now, we are totally helpless and demand immediate justice from the authorities,” she concluded. Meanwhile, the Calangute police station handling the case has confirmed that the death is under investigation.
