PANJIM Four jail guards attached to the high security Aguada central prison in Goa were arrested near here early Sunday while trying to rob a truck driver on a national highway, police said. The guards - Ankush Naik, Vishal Naik, Keshav Gawas and Dinesh Warang - were caught around 3 a.m. at Ponda, 30 km from here.
'They were attacking a truck driver and trying to rob him near the Kundaim industrial estate, when they saw a police control room van approaching. They tried to flee on their motorcycles, but they were arrested after a chase,' police inspector C.L. Patil said here. When the elected representatives of the people have double role, why not the guardians of the people??
Not a surprise to the Goans. We Niz Goenkar always knew, we have only "done tondanche malund" governing Goa.
When Goa itself is ruled by the 40 Chors, why shouldn't other chors be active? The guardians of the Law are themselves Chors.
Ha! ha! ha! The police chasing the police chors! I think such a thing must have never ever happened in any part of the world!
Today if these police who are the upholders of the law and order have tried to rob a truck driver, tomorrow they will enter our homes and rob our elderly people.
I am not surprised that Goa has come to this stage. We Goans are responsible for this. We Goans have elected the illiterate-goonda-politicians to rule us.
As they say: 'You deserve the government you vote for'. Unfortunately Goans who have taken money and voted for such goondas deserve this sort of treatment.
The day is not far away,when Niz Goenkars will have to cross swords with our own brothers and sisters if the law-keepers turn into law-breakers.

I am not so sure at the time or writing this comment as to the status of Jail Guards.However I will conduct further research and reply later.
Regardless, if the Police are "Guardians" of Peace,Law & Order...then to some extent the Jail Guards must be the "Guardians" of Convicted and condemned Law-Breakers.The term "GUARDIANS" can be refered to either the Police or Jailors equally.
Polticians are known to be "Guardians" of the Constitution.
However I am sure you must agree with all the commentators here, there has been a "WRONG" committed by the Jail Guards.

To Simon:::I have tried to do some research about the Inspector General of Prisons in Goa,but there is not a lot of concrete information available thus far.
Current info states the IG (Prisons) is also the Collector of North Goa.
I am not sure why you have chosen to use insulting language in reponse to comments by BEBDO & DALIA.
I think and feel you could have made a plain and simple "corrective" comment.

Read with interest many controversial clarifications above. The word "Guardians" implies to someone as caretaker or guard-on. One that guards, watches over, or protects. Guards are never the less, they are appointed to protect by attendance. In case of Aguada jail, they are appointed to protect the gates or property or individuals from escaping, therefore, they are protectors of law. It does not matter which department they belong to. Their duty is like that of the police themselves as they are not ordinary security guards rented out for services.
Therefore the statement by Bebdo "police chasing police" stands rightly in place because both parties are involved in policing and maintaining security of the state.
Jail Guards are "slammers" only responsible for checking the security of prisons and not the prisoners.
Robert, these guys are no policemen nor are they to be considered the Gurkas. These are contractual Ghantti Jail Guards appointed by the States Home Minister.
