SWINDON: On 17th July 2011 Niz Goenkar was invited for a press briefing by Mr Santana Sousa and his team in order to clarify their stand on the cancellation of the GOA DAY that was supposed to be held on 16th of July 2011 at the County Ground, Swindon. Below is the clarification given by Mr. Santana Souza on the issue.
Alongwith Santana were present chairman Mr Floriano D’Sa, Vice chairman Mr. Socorro Pinheiro, Treasurer Mr. Miguel Da Cunha. Only The General Secretary Mr. Abel Nunes as absent. Santana briefed NG starting with his clarifications on the recent incident of Goa Day Cancellation. According to Santana an emergency meeting took place and they discussed about the Goa Day event, which he said was illegally organised by the committee headed by president Mr. Jacinto Souza.
Santana said that he had no intention of stopping the Goa Day. However he said that the procedures by the organisers were not followed and were incomplete and that is the reason why the Borough Council of Swindon cancelled the event.
Santana disclosed to NG the email that appeared previously on NG in the preceding article, wherein it was mentioned to stop the event, was indeed written by him to Mr. James Holland and to enquire about the Goa day.
Mr James Holland told Santana that he had submitted the forms for the noise pollution. Santana was on his work when James called him. Santana told us the he replied to him that he was not involved in the organising committee to which James asked Santana how many committees were in existence among them.
Santana told NG that he informed James that the committee run by him was the legally elected committed on 16th March 2011 and that he was the president of the same. James then asked Santana to forward to him the names of the legal committee.
Santana told NG that people are accusing him of blocking the Goa Day and got it cancelled using his influence which is false and baseless. He further reiterated that he and his committee are not against the Goa Day and will never be against it even in future or even any other function organised by the Goans.
Mr Floriano D’Sa the Chairman spoke and said that in the past the current organisers of Goa Day had organised many events but they had never obstructed or objected that. “We never ever objected them in anything they organised” said Floriano.
Santana said that the current organisers had not informed the neighbours about the event as the law requires them to do and that is the main reason for the event to be cancelled. Santana said “if they had completed the formalities then neither we nor anybody could stop the event”
Stressing on the accusation by the other committee and the people that Santana misappropriated £6000, he said “I say that if they prove that if I have pocketed even .60 pence, I hereby declare that I shall never never again occupy any post in the organization all my life”
Mrs Cimilda Sousa another member of the GSA said “why has the council not recognised them and allowed them to go ahead with the event? If they were right on their side, Council would not stop them on Santana’s email”
Floriano debated that, Jacinto used the wrong dates when addressing the crowd on Saturday. He said that Jacinto said the date on the email was 13th July whereas the actual date on Santana’s email was 14th July When NG asked Floriano whether what was spoken was right or wrong, he replied ”Do you think so?”.
When asked about the election of the new committee under Mr. Jacinto Sousa, Santana said that what they have done is not in the constitution of GSA just to elect a board committee like that. Floriano said that as long as the old committee does not step down, How can new committee take over “which I have not seen anywhere in my life and am seeing here in Swindon for the first time” he said.
Over all they showed NG the minutes of the meeting that took place on 3rd July 2011 to discuss on the issue of Goa Day. Of that below are just three points of the minutes.
IN THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING:
They had discussed the phone call of Mr. Ian Pickering of Croft Centre where the event was supposed to he held, saying that it would not be nice to have two Goa Days on the same venue, as this may hinder the holding of the event in future.
Ian had arranged a meeting with both the committees and had informed Mr. Anthony Fernandes and kept a message. However no one responded for four days and as such Ian had to postpone the meeting.
The minutes also say that General Secretary Mr. Abel Nunes inquired whether the event of Goa Day on 16th July 2001 can be stopped. According to Santana and the others present there Abel's was only an enquiry and not a suggestion or pressure to stop or block the event.

Abel said "This is a conspiracy against me, I have never said these words anywhere at all. I never enquired about stopping the Goa Day." a) If Mr Abel and Rozendo had to write to the council to stop your event because yourll were not aware of this sort of restrictions?
b)Why did you write about the timings and the certificates?

First of all santana has no right to tell council whether to allow the others to go ahead or to not with the Goa day. He is not organising this event and he is not the president any more. All Goans in Swindon should get a chance to show the talent either its the band or a dj or any dancers. With those two hosts of the last years goa day it was more like a khell tiatr that used to happen in goa years ago. Goa day is not just about Konkani, Its about involving people from religion who speak different languages. If it was a Traditional Goa day last year why were the two fellow Goans sent out for no reason? can someone answer this? Why was goa day held on the same day where Fr. Francis had announced the retreat well in advance? This is gross. The first email by Santan to the council shows his motives behind this episode.Swindon Borough Council would have or may have already mentioned to the organisers about health and safety hygiene ,noise pollution and other issues.Why Santan had to poke his nose in some one else's affairs as he was not in the organising committee.If the event was cancelled due to the lapses of organisers was Santan in anyway responsible for it?would people question Santan?why did he take more interest in these matters more than the organisers?He is only exposing himself.

These interview was absolutely joke. I've been in Swindon for over 9 years the main reason for the division in Swindon between the goan and there are so many community's hear is because of these satano "maharaj" if he didn't had to give interview 7 years ago when he was actually elected as GSA president about the life style of lot of goans in Goa on Swindon advertiser it would have never happen like these. Goans than called him out for a meeting he never did stayed inside wearing bangels in his hands along with his other members in which Moni was there aswell. In that 5 years he was in the community they made 5k that's all. As soon as the new members were elected and he or any of his old members were not the part of the committee the community made 15k in one year these shows how these people were running the committee. Maharaja and Moni than came back forcing and fighting getting the old committee out as all the people who were for that meeting were his friends in which most of them were not even members the main resons for these is they wanted the publicity and money what the old committee was getting they were going mad. The term for every committee us 1 year they were trying to change it to 3 years but they couldn't so they just stayed. They meant to take general body meeting every year they didn't because they knew they would have kicked out. They done 2 Goa day and put 2 respected goans out of the Goa day because Moni wanted to show the power how do I know these because he said these. These caused more problems in the community goan people called for a meeting what these 2 do mini and maharaja stay home like a scary cat. They were sent atleast 3 to 4 formal letters to come they never replied to any and that's how his committee was dissolved. But he wouldn't step down he than after 2 and half years he called his first general body meeting. And he gave the accounts of his term he withdrawn atleast 16k and he only bring in 6k which he says is profit they made how can you when you spend 16k and bring in only 6k that's 10k loss you fool. All the hard work other past president have put in Moni and maharaja are paying their bills for gambling. That's the main reason why these 2 don't have any access at the bank account. So what these 2 Moni and maharaj do they went to care taker of OUR LADY and took all the money OUR LADY had as people had put in it or were made as donations over the years mino and maharaj took it. I've heard now they want to take the money from the death fund goans has collected. The main reason for all these these two are going made. I'm sorry that I wrote such a big letter but I couldn't hear the interview these 2 uneducated goans have given that innocent Raymond died may his soul be rest in peace, these people want the publicity even through his death that's how bad these 2 are. Many Swindon Goans have stated that Santan has a Gambling Addiction.This is sometimes an incurable addiction & I take pity on his family.
It has also been revealed here ,that he owes money to many Swindon Goans.
Based on this fact he should not be truested with the Presidentship ,day to day operations or Finiancial dealings of the GSA.
The most Honourable thing that Santan Souza could do, following this whole fiasco, is to relieve himself from any Post within the GSA or any other Goan organisation.

Is this a desperate plea of a dying man? I hope not. Introducing Andrew Pegeado the will known women protector of Goa Velha to defend the three stooges did not help either. The most decent thing that can be done is to resign ASAP and protect what little respect you have left.

People should go from the committee based on their inability to undertake their duties in honest and impartial manner ( these people well know who they are) and certainly not because of how many times their name appears in the comments.
Rina there is nothing well done in this affair. For any association, its people should be first and nothing else. Just because someone started the association does not mean they hold monopoly. Swindon has young and able goans who can run association in a dignified manner, should not they be given a chance? Once again I request you people not to use the families into this picture or debate, until and unless they are directly involved. I also request you all not to attack one village unnecessarily. All the people of Goa Velha are not involved in this mess so do not accuse all the people of Goa Velha. People from all over Goa are members of this GSA.

It is unprofessional to disclose the accounts of an organisation to general public.Only members or the shareholders of an organisation gets the accounts statement in detail.Meeting held on 16/03/2011 was strictly for members of GSA with Wiltshire police presence to monitor that everyone who enters is a member of GSA,Why does he think every Goan is part of GSA family today?

In the light of what took place was a major blow to Swindon Goans, and the current leaders must resign. Swindon Goans need to make that decision for the welfare of their community.

The comittee members of the past present and the future. Specially, Santano, Floriano, Abel, and Rosendo, these people will never do or see good of others. They gambled, drank and they partied at the cos of us. Wherever there is money, be it for mass or at shows you will see these guys allways there specially Rosendo and Floriano. These two guys pretend to be religious, attend mass, but it all because they can grab unaccounted money of the collection. After going thrugh the clarification interview by menino, it looks these two guys have no words to clearify it. they just ignore the question and answer something else. They have no shame, thats the reason he put us to into shame,in other words we too have no shame, because it is we who give them a chance to do it. They should get a kick on their ass, so that they repent. My dear like minded Goans it is time for us to keep thse guys away from any social or religious activities. You guys have no moral rights to continue as president as eleged by you.
So also I would advise Santano and party to resign with emediate effect and hand over to the care taker comittee.

As you have mentioned as people it refers to more than one. Illiteracy does not flow in ones blood, the tools of education are there to better educate oneself. As a child it is the parents responsibility to be a good guide. Latter on in life it is up to oneself to follow the fruits of parents labor. The language and threats you have portrayed and abused almost every commentator on this site is proof enough of your literacy. "The proof is in the pudding for sure".
Information gathered by me is that your brother-in-law Abel is a more decent person then you, who has been caught up in a web of the crooked Gambler who ruined the day for all Decent Swindon Families. Think of the poor families that would have made some money at the stalls and also think of the children who would have had a fun day.Will you reimburse those poor families who lost out financially? About the UK police, it is not advice. it is a fact. people like you should strive for setting a good example for young goans with decent use of language and using tact when answering irrational people (but you choose to be irrational yourself). please ponder if you have done that.

I understand Andrew Pegado`s loyalty to defend his brother in law.It is quite natural.
However his constant use & tone of language and threats are not the methods of a decent & law abiding person.

The last paragraph of Santan Sousa`s email to the Local Council reveals all about the dirtiness & crookedness of the man.
I am not sure why he wants to poke his dirty nose into the affairs and dealings of the "other Committee",which I presume is headed by Jacinto, with the Local Council.
If the "other Committee" headed or Presided by Jacinto, has failed to obtain the neccessary permissions / licences to organise Goa Day , it is none of Santan Sousas business. It would be their heads on the chopping board.
Santan Sousa cannot be the President of 2 opposing Commitees.
If he had any decency in him, he would have consulted the other committee and asked them about the progress of their dealings with the Local Authorities.
Instead he chose to" throw a spanner in the works", out of sheer jealousy & having lost his authority, to cancel the function, to show who is President of ALL SWINDON GOANS.
I doubt Swindon Goans have elected Santan Sousa as LIFE PRESIDENT.Come what may?
All in all, santan Sousa has a dirty and ulterior motive to be the President of all Swindon Goans.
In Santans world, no other person is capable of being President of Swindon Goans.Just himself.
No other Goan Association can be formed either,if he is not elected as the PRESIDENT of it.
He will oppose it tooth & nail and continue with his dirty tricks and perhaps use his "dirty tricks" committee members (like Moni aka Floriano) & departments.
