MARGAO: The Margao town police on Friday arrested eight persons of a gang involved in various cases of thefts. The accused, Saddam Ansari, Anwar Gaus, Nadim Khan, Raju Lingudkar, Sanju Lingudkar, Ulhas Malgaokar, Kalpesh Shirodkar and Axel Fernandes, were later remanded to eight days in police custody.
Police said the accused were involved in the theft of a shop dealing in electronic items at Navelim. In all, 29 mobile phones and a laptop, all amounting to ` 1.5 lakh, were stolen from Shubham Electronics on June 14. Stating that all the eight accused have a criminal background, the police said that they were also involved in committing thefts of shops by bending the shutters to gain entry. Further investigations are underway. – TNN
