INCOMPETENT GOA POLICE ARE BUSY........ by Ek Goenkar

This is the busiest season for everyone in Goa. From the start of the monsoon, some of the village boys are busy doing their traditional thing: catch frogs and sweet water fish. It is a traditional sport rather than a hobby for many. For some, frog catching has been a tradition since ages in Goa. The most prized catch is the local sweet water catfish: “Tigur” which is on a sharp decline.
The government has banned catching, killing & serving of wild bull frogs since 1985 under the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972. However, this act has made the hands of the Goa Police so strong that it helps them to extract money by threatening those who are out to catch frogs or are caught possessing frogs.
In recent developments in the last 10 days, it is alleged by many people in Goa that Goa Police are actively patrolling around the villages and putting up “Check-Naka” at night to catch people with frogs. It is also alleged that some police are following the frog catchers in the fields and demanding money in thousands of rupees or else intimidate them into cases. The usual threat of going to jail for seven to 25 years or a fine of Rs. 25000 has made some people to pay Goa Police in the darkness. This is a good seasonal chance for some of the corrupt police personnel to make hay while the sun is hidden in the clouds.
However, police have completely failed in carrying out routine patrolling in their respective areas to keep off the thieves and troublemakers alike. Goa Police have failed to tackle the drug menace. Matka is openly played right in front of their eyes and bookie kiosks laid in front of some police stations. Police are blind to lamanis those harassing tourists. Extortionists and criminals moves right in front of their eyes with criminal complaints pending against some of them and police do not even bother to summon them.
However, in the case of catching frogs, they know that only poor village boys can be caught and squeezed. Are Goa Police lesser than conman?

Would it be fair to call Goa Police "JUMPIN` CHICKENS".
LIke Frogs, they seem to jump wherever there is a HAFTA to be collected / made.
The legs of these crooked & corrupt cops should be broken and thrown in the Indian Ocean for the Sharks to embellish themselves.

Goa police cannot jump or run after actual criminals. Goa Police must be doing the best thing they are trained at. Collecting haftas for their bosses. Ek Goenkar is right in saying that they failed in controling the menance of drugs but they are active in catching those involved in petty crimes. How about setting up Matka Booths inside the police stations?

Many Goan Police Jump at the sound of Money. My friends Private Maruti was stopped at the Chinchinm junction saying the wife and two children are paying passengers. That is how low our Police have stooped.  Frogs and fresh water fish have been a delicacy in Goa for centuries and is still in many parts of the world, If it is to be controlled of banned Poor Goan youngsters must be offered employment rather than employing Non-Goans.

GOANS PLEASE NOTE. THIS IS VERY VERY TRUE.

ACTUALLY THE NUMBER OF FROGS CAUGHT BY THE PEOPLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DWINDLING NUMBER OF FROGS.  I TRAVEL DAILY AT NIGHT. THE NUMBER OF SMALL FROGS THAT COME UNDER THE TYRES OF MY CAR IS HUGE THE ENTIRE ROAD I SEE IS OF SMASHED LITTLE FROGS, HUNDREDS, THOUSANDS. IN  GOA THERE ARE WELL ILLUMINATED ROADS PASSING THROUGH FIELDS. THIS IS WHERE THE FROGS ATTRACTED BY THE LIGHT COME UNDER THE TYRES OF VEHICLES. AND THATS A HUGE NUMBER OF THEM.  HAVE YOU REALISED THIS ? I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANY SOLUTION TO THIS.
