HAS PANJIM MAYOR DEVELOPED COLD FEET OVER HOLDING MAHA SABHAS?

PANJIM: Will the Mayor of the Corporation of City of Panjim Mr. Yatin Parekh not comply with one of his first promises of holding a Maha Sabha for the citizens of Panjim on the lines of the gram sabhas being held by Panchayats? .
Information furnished to Adv. Aires Rodrigues under the Right to Information Act has revealed that the Corporation of City of Panjim has not yet taken any official decision to hold a Maha Sabha. This has been informed to Adv. Aires Rodrigues by the Commissioner of the Corporation of City of Panjim Mr. Melvyn Vaz.
It may be recalled that Mayor of Panjim Mr. Yatin Parekh and Mr. abush Monseratte had on 15th March this year announced that to ensure ransparency at the CCP, Maha Sabhas would be held to enable the eople of Panjim encounter the Corporators on various issues.
Reacting to the information furnished to him, Adv. Aires Rodrigues has tated that it was almost two months that the new Mayor had taken over nd has wondered as to why this important issue of holding Maha Sabhas as been shelved.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that Mayor Yatin Parekh should ensure that a maha sabha is held once a month so that the illegalities at the Corporation of City of Panjim could be highlighted.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that such meetings would be an opportunity for the citizens of Panjim to question on the Corporators on developmental works and publicly expose any wrong doings at the CCP.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that infact Maha Sabhas should be held by all the Municipal councils in Goa to ensure transparency, accountability and public participation in civic affairs.
