GOVERNMENT DECIDES TO HAND OVER GUDLAR CASE TO CBI

PANJIM: Stating that the government has decided to hand over the case as regards involvement of the former anti-narcotics cell cop, PSI Sunil Gudlar in the drug trade to the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Home Minister, Mr Ravi Naik on Wednesday said the number of cases related to drugs have come down substantially, over the years.
The Home Minister also agreed that the former ANC cop was caught on tape in the company of two foreign ladies in a room, and their conversations were recorded through camera. Furthermore, he informed that there is no proposal of extensive reconstitution of the anti-narcotics cell, informing that the ANC, during the year 2008, booked 17 cases and arrested 20 persons; in the year 2009, booked 17 cases and arrested 24 persons, while during the year 2010, booked 15 cases and arrested 17 persons.
It was also informed that during the year 2008, drugs worth Rs 50.83 lakh were seized by the police, while during the years 2009 and 2010, drugs valued at Rs 1.01 crore and Rs 23 lakh were confiscated, respectively.
Earlier, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party grilled the Home Minister over dismal failure of the police department to control the drug trade in the state.
The leader of the opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar pointed out that though the Home Minister has provided information as regards the ANC booking 15 cases and arresting 17 persons in 2010, the Governor, Dr S S Sidhu in his recent address to the House had mentioned that the ANC had booked 12 cases and arrested 14 persons, while the seized drugs during the year were valued at Rs 19.34 lakh.
"Why is there such a serious discrepancy in the statistics," he questioned, demanding that particular reference in Governor’s speech needs to be amended.
Mr Parrikar further questioned the Home Minister as to how could the number of cases related to drug trade be on the decline, when the police have commenced a vigorous drive against the same. "There should have been booking of more cases and more arrest," he argued.
The Home Minister appealed to the opposition MLAs to come out with information as regards those involved in the drug trade, upon which the Poinguinim MLA, Mr Ramesh Tawadkar retorted, "What are police for, if you want to collect information from the opposition MLAs."

There has been a outcry for handing over these drug related cases for months at end now to the CBI. Every time all you hear is the Govt has decided to hand over the case, so why are feet being dragged. Just hand the dam case over.Let The CBI deal with it, as our police force have failed in doing the proffesional job they claimed to be doing. They themselves have been caught as the main crooks in this operation. What a scenario ! This is just a mockery of the system. At every step of the Govt functioning there is nothing but rampant corruption. The members of the house that rule, themselves have made this clear that corruption is just rampant in the functioning of the govt. So there is and there will not be a denial on this issue. If anyone claims there is no corruption , then he is nothing but a Fool.
