IS DR. OSCAR REBELLO PLAYING DIPLOMACY OR EXPOSING IGNORANCE by Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcao

I am totally lost at words that an educated and professional person like Dr. Oscar Rebello could write what he did in one of the dailies under caption Portuguese v/s freedom fighter debate. I fail to conclude whether Dr. Oscar is playing diplomacy or exposing ignorance.
Goans were never subjected to the worst human rights abuses under Portuguese rule. An educated person of his age would have read of Idi Amin of Uganda, Nazi Germany and recently East Germany, Iran, many African nations like Somalia, Nigeria, etc. Can I ask Dr. Oscar just one question? Is there a history of any mass grave found in Goa? Then why does he state The worst Human Rights abuses? What Portuguese did in Goa was only maintaining STRICT discipline and quelling anti-Portuguese movement. Saddam Hussein did the same (may be worse), but for the sake of Iraq. The country prospered. What is its fate now? Are the citizens safe and having better human rights with Saddam’s elimination?
There were no entire generation of Freedom fighters who sacrificed their youth that we walk free. There were not even Fifty of them and they did not fight for freedom. Dr. Oscar, please study your history again. No person was bound in servility to state that they fought for their freedom. These so called freedom fighters were no different from present politicians who had their own ideology in conflict with the Portuguese. Don’t you see politicians take up ideological issues and going to jail? And one of their ideology was freedom from discipline, which is why we face all sorts of troubles today. Can Dr. Oscar find out how many of the freedom fighters procured Portuguese citizenship, married Portuguese women and lived their lives in Portugal after the so called Liberation?
Goa was never enslaved as I have already stated above. May I know from where Dr. Oscar got this information? Why does he not ask his parents or relatives who lived during the Portuguese regime instead of being gullible to distorted history?
There is a saying in English: One lie is a lie, two are lies, but three is politics!

Dear doctor Ferndinand, this is the way history gets distorted and it is being done by people Dr. Oscar Rebello. If an uneducated man said like that it was understood, but an educated man, a doctor and who knows the real history saying wrong things is bad, very very bad. Dr. Rebello wake up and get the facts right.

I read this letter of Dr. Oscar on yesterday's net edition of O Heraldo. If O Heraldo, which is known to Goans as feeding on crumbs from the Government, builder's lobby, etc., has published the letter in detail, then it is listening to its MASTER. The letter is definitely political. Why, a couple of weeks back during municipal election, this same Dr. Oscar, and educated and professional person as you state; was on the podium urging literate Goans to vote for an illiterate candidate. If this is not politics, what is?

Dr.Ferdinand, thanks very much for these wise words that condradict the statements of Dr. Rebello whom I understood to be wise. To further add , the spanish colonised latin america after the time portuguese colonised goa, however they left a strong influence in those regions , those countries are spanish speaking today and very much common in all aspects in cluture and religion to that of spain , many other similar examples are there around the globe, if portuguese had been half dectatorial as much as the spanish we would have been termed as a portuguese speaking territory , however only a minor portion of the goan population spoke portuguese until liberation and that too that population has dwindled. The portuguese were truly deciplined and strict but history and evidence will tell you than they were very humane too. I say this with confidence as my father who is known to be very pious served the portuguese army.

Either Dr.Oscar Rebello is miss informed or has been dictated to write for the co called freedom fighters. I doubt he tasted the bad side of so called freedom. After the invasion we should have had plenty to of food as was during the Portuguese time. But During Goan festivals there was always a shortage of wheat flour oil and sugar which was the main ingredients to make sweets. Most of the harvested produce was taken to oouter states. In early 1960s Americans were sending Aid such as Flour, oil, milk powder, that too was being sold in shops on the black market two of these shops are in New Market in Margao. Wake up Dr Oscar and see the wider picture, the Portuguese will not come back but we preferred that rule to our current corrupt and criminal politicians..

Dr.Oscar Rebello doesn't know that Goa is invaded by Indian Army. The "Word" Liberation is used by Indian to legitimate the conquest of Goa just as case of Kashmir. Maybe Dr.Oscar ancestors committed atrocities on the Freedom Fighters youths and families and now through his writings he is crying crocodile tears.Dr.Oscar who enter GBA to save his properties should refrain from giving misinformation of those wicked and criminal FF's and would stop playing double games with Goans.

Dr. Oscar Rebello should limit himself to his profession or before commenting on the Portuguese rule he should read the history properly. I wonder whether he has seen the Portuguese rule himself. He must have been a kid pissing in the mud and playing with it. He ditched Goans when he was the leader of GBA. He being a Congressman at heart did not challenge them at the election time. When one can be a change , it is foolish to let other bring it. Now see the state of Goa and Goans. If Dr. Oscar is not interested in politics since potrays himself as apolitical, I request him to shut up and let others to do what is required.

I think Dr. Oscar was within the four walls of his house with his ageing parents guiding him in every steps he takes and I believe they are God fearing people. I wonder whether he had consulted his parents on this issue otherwise he would not have written on such matter. It is almost an insult to the feelings of Goan people. He was supposed to be a good activist and a good doctor. I don’t understand his sudden surge in the change in weather and sides with these corrupt politicians. Where did you loose you vigor.

Dr. Oscar came like a whirl wind and dissapeared like soft wave. Many things can crush or inflate a person's self-confidence. These things tend to occour during struggles.
People have different variations of fragility is understandable. Some may be easily knocked, others as tough as diamonds, and others have just been the wrong way up since GBA was formed.

Politicians are like sponges, they absorb everything. They diluted the motive of GBA by planting their own people and dividing GBA into different factions. Dr. Oscar was the ultimate hope but we now have mix signals and feelings. Dr. Oscar is presently lost in his own sentimental feelings.

A more detailed argument I spy here: As far as I am concerned, Oscar Rebello is trying to rehabilitate his alleged reputation after being conned by the Goa politicians. He is a light-weight clutching to any straw he can find. I would not have used Saddam as an example. I would ask him three simple questions: a: Who were the "Policia" who put down civil disturbances antes 1961? b: What happened to them in Jan 1962? c: How would Indian police react if we had a bunch of disordeiros did the stuff claimed by these so called freedom fighters? http://www.colaco.net/1/India-ter.htm >From the Heraldo June 18, 2002 *Govind B Naik: joined the Azad Gomantak Dal in June 1955 and worked under the leadership of Vishwanath Lawande in carrying out nationalistic activities. Naik alongwith his camp leader Dattaram Dessai fired on Portuguese Police at Majali in Canacona, dynamited bridges at Ardhafond, Uddyaval and Pissonern, attacked trains at Chandor and damaged roads. *Madhukar Talaulikar: participated in raid on Cuncolim Police station on April 13, 1955 along with his associates *Bablo Pednekar: participated in raids on Onda Police outposts *Janardhan M Kerkar: was arrested on February 18, 1957 when his group tried to dynamite water supply line at Curti, Ponda *Gurudas Dhawalikar: was arrested while attempting to dynamite the water supply line at Curti Ponda by Camilo Pereira and Suresh A Kerkar *Chandrakant L Prabhu: participated in various armed actions in South Goa, important being raid on police post at Partagal and capture of Surla Village in July 1955 along with Prabhakar Sinari, Krishnarao Rane, Krishna Mainkar and other AGD Commandos *Shrikant M Harmalkar :was arrested on January 4, 1960 at Vasco da Gama where explosives were seized from him

I liked the details provided by SPY 13 as they are upto mark and perfect. This is the history of the crooks who call themselves the freedom fighters. Dr. Rebello it looks like you are crying wolf when there isn't any wolf around. You are trying to tell the Goans that a jack fruit tree has borne mangoes. You have lost all the respect that I had for you for this foolish article of yours which I have also seen on Goa News

Sandesh Gaonkar said...

Well said SPY, that is the correct figures of these thieves. We are hindus but not like them who change the history to suit to their needs. Now along with the fake freedom fighters like Karmali, Dr. Oscar has acted very foolishly and now you are really going to go down the drain. We the Niz Goenkars catch hold of those people like you whose real colours are exposed here on the site. Your count down has begun.

I agree with Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcao
and I beg to differ with Oscar Rebello.
I think from my perspective, far worse barbarities were committed in Goa prior to the Portuguese coming to Goa.Unfortunately these were not always archived.

India as a whole was in a constant grip of invasions and Religious and dynastic feuds.
Goa`s Feeedom Fighters did not alone get rid of the Portuguese. It was done with the help of the Indian Army.
The real Freedom Fighters, I admire are the ones in South Africa/Kenya etc..They did not get rid of Apartheid or colonies with any proxy armies.
I am sorry that Oscar has been slightly mis-guided in this assessment.

Let us forget that Goa is under India and the fanatic freedom fighters with their hate groups now rule, if you speak up you will be labeled a traitor. We can do this on this website but if you live in Goa and you speak up you will suffer the consequences. We know the whole system is corrupt to the core, the Gua Police work for politicians....what more can be said. It is sad what has become of us and our homeland....Look at all the non-Goans in Goa, increasing and outnumbering us, soon not even a single voice of ours will be able to be heard....

Bebdo said...

@Trevor, there is still hope for us. We need to unite and fight unitedly. As Niz Goenkars we can bring in a change in Goa. We need to unite first and then raise funds to fight for our cause.
We need to fight fire with fire, only then we will be able to hold our heads high and declare a special status for Goa so that we can throw out all the ghanttis and their patrons, the illiterate-goonda-politicians.
Join us in our fight.

Dr Oscar is still the hope. He is not a politician, and he did things from the heart. However, with time, I am sure that he has learnt the ropes to be in position to lead Goa. And, we need him to take the lead, to unite the good and progressive forces of 'Goa!
