MARGAO: Undaunted by the hue and cry raised by PWD Minister Churchill Alemao and his group, CWC Member Luizinho Faleiro’s close aide Conceissao Piexote appears firmly in the saddle as Navelim Block Congress president.
In fact, Pradesh Returning Officer for Goa I G Sanadi has rejected in toto the appeal filed by Alemao’s close aide Filomeno Barretto to hold fresh elections for the Navelim Congress Block Committee.
When contacted, the PWD minister feigned ignorance about the rejection of appeal filed by Barretto against the election of Conceisao Piexote and the Navelim Block Congress Committee. “I am not aware of the rejection of Barretto’s appeal”, he said. Incidentally, Alemao had in July threatened to form block committee across the state if the Navelim Block Congress committee headed by Piextoe is not scrapped forthwith.
Sources in the Congress party said that Sanadi made it very clear that there’s no need to review the election in Navelim Block or conduct the elections again as prayed in the appeal.
While rejecting Barretto’s appeal, Sanadi is believed to have observed that those who have taken pains to enroll as members within the time schedule given by the party will be frustrated and disappointed and will lose faith in the democracy.
Sanadi termed as False Barretto’s contention that the meeting of the Navelim Block Congress Committee was hurriedly held on May 15, saying a detailed program of Booth Level elections was declared on April 30 by a press note by him and displayed on the notice boards of the PCC office and South Goa district Congress office.
He also termed as false that any body had protested at the election venue as the report of the BRO says that the election was held peacefully.
The Navelim block Congress president said that he has been told by the party leaders that the appeal filed by Filomeno Barretto against the election of the Navelim block stands rejected. “Since the appeal stands rejected by the Pradesh Returning Officer for Goa, I continue to be the president of the Navelim block Congress,” Piexote said.
