PANJIM: The first day of the drive against erring drivers and conductors, the Transport Department on Friday saw 145 cases booked against the erring drivers and conductors. The drive was initiated after private bus operators agreed to the fact that they have no control over erring drivers and conductors.
Transport Director Arun Desai confirmed that till Friday evening RTO’s succeeded in issuing challans to 145 drivers and conductors in the State. “They were issued challans for not wearing uniforms, not issuing tickets and for overloading buses then the required capacity. They have been fined as per the Motor Vehicle Act,” Desai said. The cases were booked in the major cities like Panjim, Mapusa, Margao and Vasco. “In some cases, the challans were issued for not displaying correct fare table on the buses,” he said. Desai said that the drive, which is a continuous process, will certainly help to improve the bus transport system in the State.
The drive will also keep a close watch on passengers. The department has set certain guidelines for public like payment of correct ticket fares; demand for proper tickets; do not occupy seats reserved for ladies or handicapped; not to insist for unauthorised stops and also not to enter the bus which is overloaded.

Besides issuying chalans, how many haftas are already in the pockets? In Goa, it wont work one way. It has to be "you scratch my back and i will scratch yours".
