ACCUSED IN AGACAIM THEFT BID HELD

Agacaim police arrested the main accused in the Agacaim theft case, who had attempted to rob owners of a pharmacy, at knife point, last week.

According to police, Michael Fernandes was the main member of the gang, which was recently apprehended by the Calangute police and had recovered two pistols, nine cartridges, three two-wheelers, four mobile handsets, a chopper and a knife from them. While the gang members were arrested he was reportedly hiding in Colva. After the police were tipped off on his whereabouts, a team from Agacaim police station rushed to the spot and nabbed him.
Police inspector from Agacaim, Mr Vishwesh Karpe informed that the owner of the pharmacy based at Agacaim and his brother were in the process of closing for the day and were about to leave for their residence in Panaji, when two persons tried to rob them at knife point; however, as a crowd gathered, they fled from the scene.
Meanwhile, Calangute police took the accused into their custody on a transfer order from the Agacaim police, as he is wanted in a number of cases in Calangute. Later, he was produced before the judge and seven days police custody was obtained for further interrogation.(NT)

Lock thieves for Live, and cut one hand off. Until we have harsher laws in Goa no one will deterred in committing such crimes.
