COLEM: Irked with the transfer of agriculture officer from Sanguem agriculture office, farmers from Colem, Molem, Shigao and surrounding areas have demanded to recall the officer.
In a memorandum to Agriculture Minister Vishwajeet Rane and Directorate of Agriculture department, the Farmers Associations of Metawaddo Colem, Kisan Self-Help Group of Bimbal - Colem, Dudh Society Colem, Mallikeshwar Self Help Group and Dugdhsagar Sahakari Society have stated that agriculture officer Dattaprasad Desai explained various schemes launched by the government to the farmers and many farmers took benefit of the schemes.
“The main occupation of the people of Sanguem taluka is farming. In Colem alone, there are over 150 farmers, who cultivated sugarcane, rice and others crops under the guidance of Desai,” states the memorandum.
Besides, Desai conducted many Melavas for the farmers of Sanguem taluka and guided them by inviting experts in the field of agriculture. Ragoba Desai, a farmer, said due to Desai’s guidance, they were provided high quality seeds for the last many years. The farmers have demanded the concerned authorities to look into matter and re-appoint Desai at Sanguem agriculture office immediately.(HD)
