FORMER GOA CHIEF MINISTER PRATAPSINGH RANE TO BE SUMMONED IN RIBANDAR CHURCH CASE TRIAL

PANJIM: Former Chief Minister Minister of Goa Mr. Pratapsingh Singh is to be summoned in the 2004 Ribandar Church case trial against Adv. Aires Rodrigues and 14 others.  Adv. Aires Rodrigues today moved an application before the Panjim Judicial Magistrate First Class Mrs. Sarika Faldessai seeking to summon and examine Mr. Pratapsingh Rane as a defence witness.
Adv. Rodrigues drew the attention of the Court that the file notings of the case show that Mr. Pratapsingh Rane as Chief Minister had called for the investigations papers of the case and had also approved the filing of the charge sheet in the 2004 Ribandar Church case.
Adv. Rodrigues has in his application before the JMFC further submitted that amongst other things it has to be ascertained from Mr. Pratapsingh Rane as to under what authority he had intervened in the investigation of the case as it was totally in violation of the provisions of the Criminal Procedure code.
Adv. Rodrigues has also stated that the Supreme Court has time and again reiterated that all police investigations have to be solely conducted by the Investigating officer, free and independent from any political or other intervention.
