GOVT SCHOOLS IN PONDA BREAKS LAW BY NOT GIVING CHOICE TO PARENTS TO CHOOSE MOI

PONDA: Although parents across Goa now have a right to choose the medium of instruction for their children, 17 government primary schools (GPS) in Ponda do not give parents any option.  This is because the circular issued by directorate of education specifies that there should be at least 20 students for a division if their parents wish to select English as medium of instruction. All these 17 GPS' have 10 or less students enrolled.

An official at the Ponda additional district education inspector (ADEI) office, however, says that this number can be increased as children can be enrolled up to September.
The 17 GPS' without an option to choose the medium of instruction are: Navat-Bandora (seven students), Ramnathi (five students), Farmagudi (seven students), Undir (10 students), Panchame-Priol (four students), Und-Agapur (five students), Vaze-Shiroda (five students), Haldai-Shiroda (seven students), Vazangal-Shiroda (five students), Mattidhar-Nirankal (two students), Kamgal-Savoi Verem (eight students), Taak-Usgao (three students), Zitolemol-Panchwadi (five students), Devote-Shiroda (four students), Daboli-Shiroda (four students) and Cavlem (six students). All these GPS' are run by single teachers.
