DGP OF GOA SAYS THAT GOA CAN NEVER BE FREE FROM DRUG PEDDLERS

PANJIM: Outgoing Director General of Goa Police Bhimsen Bassi today said narcotics trade in the state is "insignificant", but feared that the tourist destination "can never" be free from drug peddlers.  Bassi, who will now work as the Delhi police chief, said: "A place where there is a large influx of tourists, can never be free from anti-social elements pushing drugs into the society. However, presence of drug lobby in Goa has been insignificant."
A number of people has been arrested in crimes related to drugs, Bassi told reporters here.
Responding to a question on the extradition of Israeli drug-dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, he said, "Atala is an important link between police and drug mafia. He had jumped bail and was later arrested in Peru by Interpol – PTI
