PANJIM: A mere 0.43% of the total persons booked in 2010 for traffic related offences by the traffic police were for drunken driving.
This has been revealed in the information furnished to Adv. Aires Rodrigues under the Right to Information Act by Goa’s Superintendent of Traffic Police Mr. Arvind Gawas.
Of the total 2, 63, 239 persons challaned for various traffic related offences in 2010 those booked for drunk driving were only 1141 while 5901 for rash and negligent driving.
Adv. Rodrigues has also been informed that in 2010 there were a total of 4572 accidents registered with 327 fatalities. The Superintendent of Traffic Police has further informed Adv. Aires Rodrigues that 3 crores 49 lacs 57, 800 rupees was collected by way of fines by the traffic police in the year 2010.
