PANJIM: Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik on Wednesday told the state assembly that the probe into the police-drug mafia nexus involving a former police official of the anti narcotics squad has already been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).“The state Home Ministry has already handed over the case to the CBI after a proposal from the Goa police department to hand over the probe to a federal investigating agency,” Naik replied to an opposition party’s question on the floor of the House.
Earlier last month, police sub inspector (PSI) Sunil Gudlar was caught on a spy-camera selling drugs to two foreign women - Ayala and Zarina - who happened to be related to imprisoned drug dealer David Driham alias Dudu.
Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar however asked the Government to table CBI’s written reply on the floor of the House.
Special Investigation Team currently probing into the case have already registered First Information Report against the suspended PSI under Prevention of Corruption Act, section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and Narcotics and Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police spokesman Atmaram Deshpande on Tuesday had said that the case was yet to be handed over to the CBI. A fortnight ago, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat had said that it is weighing the proposal to hand over the policemen-drug peddler nexus case to the CBI. - IBNS
