VASCO: Panic gripped the villagers of Velsao on Tuesday afternoon as water entered three houses due the sluice gate in a field remaining closed.
According to the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate, Mormugao, Mr Levinson Martins, the incessant rains that lashed the village for the last couple of days led to the water getting accumulated in a field, resulting in the adjacent highway getting waterlogged. Water entered the three houses lying close to the field and occupants had no option but to vacate them.
Mr Martins informed the fire station, police personnel, Mormugao mamlatdar’s office and also the water resource department. The Mormugao mamlatdar, Mr Rajesh Azgaonkar, deputy superintendent of police, Mr Rohidas Patre, Verna police inspector, Mr Jivba Dalvi, Velsao talathi, Mr Hanumant Mandrekar, engineer from water resource department and other officials rushed to the site and took stock of the situation.
The Velsao-Pale sarpanch, Ms Olga Souza and the personal secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Mr Ligorio Monteiro also inspected the site.
It was noticed that a person who was awarded the contract through auction for utilising the field to carry out fishing activity, had blocked the water with the help of sluice gate.
The deputy collector and mamlatdar held talks with the contractor and after a marathon discussion, the person agreed to release water from the field. With the assistance provided by the Vasco fire station personnel, the sluice gate was finally opened. People had gathered in large numbers at the site since Tuesday afternoon.

I am not familiar with the site, but in general the land filled sites and poor construction of highways and the Konkan railways, there are no waterways to naturally release the pressure of water thus causing floods.
That as well as mega-housing projects promoted on the hill slopes and approach roads from Birla to Velsao by the likes of builders like Agnelo Alcacoas ex-Sarpanch of Velsao and owner of Queeny Realty Estates. Agnelo Alcacoas has the strong political backing of his cousin Mauvin Godinho for numerous illegal mega housing projects mushrooming in this Constituency!
Dear Readers, wake up the Antonette amongst yourself and let the message of Niz Goenkars reach every nook and corner. Let each one of us become Antonette from Internet and spread the message.
I am glad that people from Cansaulim are responding here. Make awareness amongst Goans that it is high time to throw out these Chors of Goa.
Yes all these politicians and Panchayat members working with their builder buddies are responsible for the shocking damage to our hills, forests, villages resulting in climate changes and floodings that were never heard of before in Goa. All of them should be taken and drowned in these flood waters. I passed by through those torrential showers after work from Birla to Utorda and was shocked to epxerience this flooding that never has happened over the last 35 years that I've gone down this stretch.
By the way Mauvin Godinho is constructing a mega hotel on those hill slopes opposite cousin Agnelo Alcacoas Queeny Nagar.
Thanks to Tony Noronha of Velsao and Rajesh Dessai I have a learnt more about the area, Yes it is our corrupt politicians that have altered the landscape of Goan Villages. These mega projects benefit the corrupt and the Non Goans. Flooding disasters in future are imminent in Goa. God Bless and protect Goa and Goans.
The destruction of our forests, traditional drains, nullahs, fields, ponds, villages by greedy builders and our politicians is what causes these changes not only to weather but also flooding.
Even the monkeys from the hilly slopes now have come from the hills that have been cut to create Queeny Nagars, Fukott Nagars and Mauvin Godinho's hotel project on the slope now have moved down into the villages.
I hope ex-Sarpanch of Velcao Agnelo Alcacoas and Queeny Realty Estates aguto) had his Queeny Mahal flooded. He can then move into all his Nagars on top of the hill or in cousin Mauvin Godinho's swank Mahals in Dona Paula. All these rogues are destroying God's creation and villages and fields are being destroyed due to weather changes and flooding.
The news with photograph published in the Herald online is indeed to be noted with interest. The subtle fox Mauvin is distributing gas stoves to the 52 beneficiaries which is supported under the scheme by Goa Government. He is cleverly taking credit for himself so that he can once again be elected for the next election. He also states that he is in favour of constructing a garbage plant in Cortalim to cater the needs of the Cortalim people and there is a stake that Navy and Airforce will also be sharing this facilities for constructing and maintaining the plant. What an idea sirji, so that you get the kickbacks on this deal. This plant is already being opposed by few people from Cortalim, and Mauvin is against these good people who are opposing it. I wonder why the Navy and Airforce has be involved in such facilities.
Yes Franco well said - Mauvin Godinho's cousin Agnelo Alcacoas of Queeny or his dog Aboobakr Shaikh or some such contractor will then be awarded the project to construct the garbage plant over one lakh square metres of prime land which is supposed to clear garbage for 6 villages from his Constituency!
Agnelo Alcacoas and Aboobakr Shaikh can then put full page tributes to Mauvin Godinho in our newspapers as we recently saw in August. Some of the ads were paid by all these contractors incuding the contractor of Kala Bhavan!
No wonder Mauvin Godinho and his followers go around comparing him to Mother Theresa and Blessed Jose Vaz as if the 52 gas stoves, cycles, towels, rice bags that he freely distributes comes from his own pocket.
Other goondas and supporters get paid cash, free liquor, food and women to harass poor Goans and make their lives miserable.
At the end of the day he has enough stashed in his bank accounts in Dubai, Switzerland and around the world!
Yes Rozario, when we come across such things being created by these rogue politicians our temperature shoots up in distress. We are all at Niz Goenkar are shouting May day, May day… for some help. Hope we get some help from our true Goans in eliminating them in the next election so they never show their faces again in politics.
