GARBAGE THREATENS TO RUIN TOURISM IN GOA

Stinking heaps of garbage are threatening to ruin Goa's tourism party in the land of sun, sea and sand this year, an industry spokesperson said Friday.
'After the union government's move to tighten the screws on multi-entry visas to India, garbage is one of the major threats to tourism in the state, which attracts nearly 2.5 million tourists to its shores annually, ' Ralph de Souza, spokesperson of the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) said here.
'Goa needs to have a garbage processing plant. Two years ago we lost a major tourism programme from Scandinavian countries, because they were not happy with the garbage situation in Goa,' he said.
He also said that the tourism department was undertaking a project involving mechanical cleaning of popular beach stretches in north and south Goa, but that would only help in partially solving the crisis.
He said the beggars had also badly affected the image of tourism. 'Even before the tourists come here, thousands of beggars land up on the streets and beaches,' De Souza said.

The government is not able to decide on the solution for the stinking refuse that is accumulating for the past 40 years at Sonsddo in Margao. This is a direct testimony, the disrespect and scorn to the faces of our illiterate electorates from their faithful dogs, the ministers. The place is a burial ground for the Goa’s waste, hazardous chemicals, dead animals and possibly human carcasses which have been victims of gang violence.

Tons of garbage and the stink around every place in Goa is the best think that can happen to stop Goa's tourism. Long live the beggars long live the Ghanttis.

To Johnads:::Mr Digu Kamat and his Cohorts are too busy trying to close down Facebook. They have no time at all to deal with the garbage problem. Also remember they are garbage themselves...they dirty & litter every aspect of Goan life....in some form or another. Also remember their brains are limited and so they can only focus on easy targets. The difficult ones they blame on Goa`s Citizens.

N.Fernandes... Do they know the meaning of facebook. They think that is their faces spread all over the newspapers. they look worse than monkeys whenever their mug appears in any newspaper. They are garbage themselves with a little rotten cauliflower in their head that they call brain. Their brain is gone down the drain. I wonder when all of them will go down there too.

I see sense in the first comment of johnads. He has very intelligently put up the facts and said long live ghantis. Yes johnads is correct. The more the ghanits litter Goa or dirty Goa the sooner the tourism will die down and Goa will be saved from all the projects.

The so called ministers (GARBAGE) has already ruined Goa and turned it into Gua. What other garbage do we need to drive tourists away, huh????

Hope this bad omen (like rapes, garbage, crimes, drugs etc. etc. etc.) haunt the tourism industry for betterment of Goa’s scenario that has been created thereby restricting the foreigners to visit Goa. The benefit of Goan tourism is mostly enjoyed only by the foreigners and Ghantis, as they are the true lechers of Goan destruction.

This is the destruction of Goa with tourism and drugs. Now massage parlours, prostitution and what not. What is tourism in Goa without footpaths, proper transport system and of course, no security for the tourists? Go to any place like Europe or Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the best infrastructure is available for the benefit of the tourists. In Goa, even the taxi drivers take tourists for a ransom. People come to Goa not because of the best place but the niz Goenkar is tolerable and the food is yet cheaper. What we need government to promote is health care for it's citizens which is poor and lacking any standards, go to GMC and watch the state of affairs.

These are all signs of way our beloved Goa has been treated. with excessive mining, all outsiders coming in to do tourism jobs, non-Goans moving to Goa, have no respect for our home. Over construction, no end in sight….so many developers on the internet offering blocks of blocks of flats still to be built….no end in sight! People of Goa, only YOU can do the right thing for Goa.....please...new leadership....throw these uneducated rouges out...have they not done enough damage. I also appeal to our people in Goa, not to be selfish and only look at your wallet and your bank accounts, please do the righ thing for Goa. In the long run it will pay up ten fold more. Please stop selling OUR Goa! We are counting on you all to save us as a people. Go back to your roots of honesty and dignity…

Thanks dlp....It does take a bit of effort and time to write in as you all know, so I commend you all for writing in. I have learned a lot about OUR Goa from you all, the true story of OUR Goa. So much is at stake as we are in a state of transition. Too much change, happening too soon. Sometimes I don't know if I would fight so much for Goa, if it weren’t so beautiful. The good Lord allowed me to travel to a few different places in the world, but I am always so amazed that we were blessed with truly a jewel of land - GOA. The natural beauty in Goa is just stunning!! Hence why foreigners come to Goa. How could the good Lord be so good to us? With that, comes a responsibly to look after this paradise to pass on to future Goan generations. I know people with so much money that would die to live in a place like Goa. Yes, I know too that life is a struggle for a lot of our fellow people in Goa, but with good leadership good jobs can be created for our people to live a decent life without it being a detriment to our land. What concerns me is the price of land, if our fellow Goans wanting to buy a piece of property to start a family cannot do so, we will slowly loose OUR identity to more and more outsiders. …The best example I can give our people is what happened in Hawaii, USA. When the US took over the beautiful islands of Hawaii, the whites were buying up all the land, and the local Hawaiian people were losing their culture and way of life. They started to resort to alcoholism and crime. It was only after they enacted laws that required prime real estate be owned by the indigenous Hawaii people that things started to turn around for them. The Hawaii people are now a proud people with a bright future. If a powerful country like the US can do something like this, why not us? The coastal areas should only be limited for people of 'Goan' ancestry; it is the only way to preserve and to keep our culture going. We are a unique people with a unique culture. It needs to be preserved as all costs so that it will flourish to create part of this great tapestry of cultures in India. I will hope and pray my dreams come true for our people to keep our culture going. I think it is the single biggest step to preserving our identity. Viva Goa!!!!
